Whether you are creating a new routine or picking up new hobbies or habits, remember to keep it simple. Taking to much on your plate all at once can be overwhelming and eventually can lead you to burn out.
If your anyhting like me the idea of making better habits for myself actually sounds exciting. But boy, there was a time where I could care less about a healthy rotuine and life style. Maybe it has to do with time and age that things begin to shift. All of a sudden you start to care more about your sleep patterns, your alcohol intake, the things you put in your body, and the people you surround yourself with.
Its this internal shift that drives us to do things differently than before. And the idea might be simple; Eat clean, exercise regularly, go to sleep at a decent time, meditate daily, skip the late night partying with friends and take the morning yoga class instead. It really is that simple. But no one ever said it would be easy.
Through the journey of implementing new habits you will face many curve balls along the way. Your years of not knowing how to eat clean, or your crazy work schedule, or your long term friendships that keep you in same old habits are there along the way to challenge you when deciding to do things differently.
So how can you go from being who you were before, to the person you desire to be if life is going to challenge the shit out of you along the way? You keep it simple. You make small changes in each area every day. keep it tangible.
I've learned something about myself while trying to make these lifestyle changes in my personal life. I go balls to the walls, I decide one day that I'm going to go all in with a crazy new routine. But along the way I burn out, and avoid everything I had set my mind to. Because I went zero to one hundred. If I didn't see results right away, I'd get discouraged and quit. And this was a vicious cycle I'd continue to do. Crazy new routine -> Burn out -> Revert to old ways -> Crazy new routine.
If you can go zero to hundred and stay there, by all means go for it. But in my experience, starting small in each area has allowed me to stay consistent. There will be times you get distracted and maybe even revert to old ways. But it's a lot easier to get back in alignment when taking small simple steps.
So, keep it simple.
With love,
Jay
